Project 1 Documentation

The final form of Project 1 is a web-based work, with a simple homepage linking to the four different experiments conducted. I created the page using Wix, and placed each of the various media elements onto their respective page.

Experiment one is created in photoshop, each image exported as a .jpeg, and then uploaded into a slideshow image viewer than allows for the user's control.

Experiment two, below is documentation of the running list of saved links, and then a screenshot of how it is embedded via html code into the webpage from Adobe Spark.

Experiment three is an embedded Vimeo link, created from the .mov file in Adobe After Effects.

Experiment four is created using different audio player widgets, the individual .mp3 output files connected to each one.

Project 2 Reflection

Reflecting on the process of making Project 2, I discovered I had taken a difficult journey, perhaps needlessly, but learned an enormous amount while doing so. For Project 1, I was fixated on news media as my subject of artistic material and created a web-based project, which drove me toward creating something new away from computer screens and back to a more analog artistic process--specifically the idea of working with drawing and painting on paper. And the subject that I found myself interested in for Project 2 was a specific person rather than a system, network, or philosophy. I thought this would be therapeutic in a way, to allow me to study one human subject under a microscope and dig deep at a slower pace, instead of feeling like I had to keep up with something moving at a much faster speed or situate myself within a complex body of academic and theoretical research. I conceptualized the project around a character, and started by writing a character sketch--trying to pin down d...

Class Project I: Revised Project Proposal

Revised Proposal for Project 1 Reflection: After proposing an initial idea to create a documentary to explore the infrastructure of the broadcast media system, I immediately realized that this idea had to be changed into something more manageable for the time period allowed. To accomplish a piece that would fit the original vision will require different circumstances and resources. Instead of scaling the project back, I have decided to shift my focus onto something more manageable within the context of the due date for Project 1. I will instead propose a piece that allows me to do most of the work from the computer and in the studio, rather than heading out into the field on video shoots, and give myself a contained and immediate time period in which to focus my efforts.  Title: News Media Ecosystem Check-Up Abstract:   An observational documentary-style moving image work that seeks to keep an eye on the news media headlines, and how various outlets frame top n...

Project 2 Proposal

Project Title: The Bennie Bucker Abstract: A study on the Bennie Bucker—a fictional character who exemplifies the signifiers of millennial success within the framework of Corporate America. The final project will be displayed visually through three physical mixed-media pieces, two videos, and one short story. Intro to Project Idea: The Bennie Bucker is a character I am interested in studying and developing through my artistic practice. Drawing inspiration from personal relationships, work experiences, and trends in contemporary culture, I will present visual and textual imagery crafted around aspects of the Bennie’s existence.  Basic facts about the Bennie: he is in the millennial age range (25-35), he is recently married and considers himself to be a family man. He lives in a trendy part of the city, and he works for a new media conglomerate in the corporate headquarters while earning a large salary. His job function is to analyze customer data through targeted advertis...
